Hi new here and to bikes so please forgive ignorance.
I just picked a 79or80 not sure kz750-B2 in disrepair electrically speaking has too many splices and work arounds for me to trace but i am working on it.

My question; is it possible to only use the kick start or is necessary to have the battery hooked up as well? if so could you point me in the right direction on how it should be wired up.
thanks in advance

If your new to bikes and dont have a wad of electrical knowledge, stick with a nice new battery.

You will still need a battery to run your lights since by law in most places you are required to have a DC power source to your tail light so that it will stay illuminated if the bike stalls. ie: The tail light comes on as soon as the key is turned on.

Good point! ...and emergency blinkers...

Do you know the fastest way to get a motorist to stop and offer you help if your bike is dead on the side of the road???

Take your helmet off and place it on the ground, then lie down beside it :P Guaranteed, the first person drivin by will screech to a halt!

Not around here. If they don't run you over they will take everyone else out trying to avoid you. A buddy of mine saw a guy go down after something fell off of a truck on the freeway and at least 10 people drove past him while he was laying on the ground bleeding with his bike in pieces. My buddy stopped and stayed with him until EMS got there.
