Speedo quit working a half mile from work this AM.

We have an unusually warm day here in southern PA, so I had to ride to work. Four blocks from work, my Speedo stopped working. I eye-balled the cable at both ends when I got to the lot. Nothing looks suspicious. Is it most likely the internal cable broke? Or is there another more common fault?

Broken internal cable is the likely cause.

But would assure connections at both ends are snug.

Sometimes, especially at speedo, the knurled fastener will loosen enough to prevent engagement without falling away from the speedo.

Good Fortune! :)

I actually had the shaft in the speedo drive itself break so that's something else you might want to check

I pulled the cable. The forked end that goes to the axle seperated from the rest. I have been considering going with a Bicycle speedo. If I do, do I need to plug the axle drive piece?

On that note, it looks like the Sygma 800 is well suited, but discontinued. Does anyone have a suggestion for another model or a source for the BC800?

Would cap speedo drive rather than leave it open and exposed to water, road gunge, etc.

I am seriously considering the bicycle speedo. I think I am going to find a cap that fits over the thumb screw portion of the broken cable and just seal it up.

I think I want a Sygma 800 bicycle computer, but they no longer make that model. I'll have to do some digging.

I have been thinking about cleaning up my gauges all winter. I'd like to find a smaller tach and move everything off the bars.

This just pushes me in that direction sooner. I do have to order some stuff from Z1E, so I may thrown a speedo cable in my cart when I do. In case I'm not ready to do it by the time inspection comes around again.

I bought the SCHWIN bicycle computer at Wal-Mart, and installed it last week. What sucks is, I can't see it at all in low light. Also, the sample rate takes some getting used to. I ordered the speedo cable from Z1. I'd like to clean up the gauge cluster, but I'm not sure the bicycle speedo is how I want to do it.
