Speedometer Drive

Can someone tell me if there is some sort of a piece that goes between the end of the cable and the inside of the speedo drive. The end of my cable is forked and so is the inside of the drive. Either I have the wrong cable, there is a piece missing or what I am seeing inside the drive is the broken off end of an old cab:S le.

What model and year of bike?

On my 1982 GPz 1100 B2 model the split or fork fits the speedometer hub on the front wheel. Up at the speedometer, a square about 3/16" fits at the instrument with a knurled nut holding it tight.
