axle mount license plate was created by andy9802gt
All right guys, after helping my brother clean up his frame this weekend I decided to use his bike to get an idea how to put the zx12 taillight on. I noticed I'm not going to be able to mount the plate under the brakelight so I have to go with an axle mount. Question is how would you guys light it up? I don't want to run wires down my swinger or the strut. any ideas? just for a visual this is what we're dealing with.

can you go through the swingarm(if its open tube)? I guess you really only need one wire.

You can go through the s/a or use little wire clamps underneath.

I just need to light the plate taillight is where it is in pic. do you guys think I could use an led under the tail aimed at the plate? I don't really wanna drill a hole in the swingarm to run the wire into if I can avoid it.

I'm lookin at your pic and it still seems like you could run a wire through the whole swingarm front to back unless your swingarm is boxed in infront of your pivot point. don't know about the LED idea, some of these new LED's are pretty bright now, but they are usually more involed than just hookin up a conventional bulb. also when I think of "aiming" an LED I think of flashlights that have things like lenses and reflectors to help aim it, I don't think a bare LED would do the same thing.

I live in Indiana and see alot of the customs and hardlys running them vertical so why not me. There's no room under the taillight for it. I don't want a wire running down my swingarm I could run it up the strut I just don't think it would look very clean.

I'd suggest using two wires(unless you're going to have a brake light there too), and then it would be three wires,

Grease from pivots make for bad grounds along with the axle stuff, so adding a ground wire will ensure the volt get to the circuits.

I'd stick with the standard Kawasaki wire colors if possible:

RED,the tail light or running light circuit
BLUE(sometimes with a RED stripe), the brake light circuit
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

Probably three 18 gauge wires will be more than enough for the lighting needs. Get an electric drill and twist the three colors of wire together, and then cover them with heat shrink tubing.

I run one so really why not ??, mine's mounted to the frame
I ran my wire in the frame figured out location, drilled holes, pulled wire, one of the easiest parts of that build :woohoo:
if u do axle, fab something, u'll have to do a longer axle, easy enough, shouldnt be hard, u could still run wiring in frame just leave a little slack

I have an aftermarket axle that has two flats and a lockwasher so I'll just remove one of the flat washers and use the mount in it's place. I guess I could mount it to the upper part of the strut, after all I don't ride on the back.
