Dyna Coils Hook Up
25 Apr 2006 19:11
Hello all, I need to confirm a few things about installing a dyna DS2-1 ignition and DC1-1 coils. I know lots of you guys have already done this so this one will be easy.
First question is about the terminals on the coils themselves, there is no markings on the coil to say which is the primary (12v) and which is the trigger(from the ignition). I was looking on the dyna web site and it says there is no polarity on the DC1-1 coils so it does not matter, is this correct???? These coils had no instructions with them when I got them..I just want to be sure.
Second question is after hooking everything up (the coils and the ignition) and was setting the timing I was using a battery charger to power the bike and heard a buzzing coming from the coils and plugs they were firing constantly, is this because I was using a battery charger as a power source??? I hooked up the battery after and the ignition only fired when triggered so it had to be something to do with having the charger as the power source.. Anybody else ever have this going on??? and if so will this damage the coils or the ignition unit???
Oh ya this is going on a 1976 kz 900...
Thanks,

If you didn't have a battery hooked up when using the charger, it was like you were turning the power on and off 120 times a second.

Question #1
You can use either terminal on the coils. As they stated, coils don't have a polarity.
Question #2
It's the battery charger, hook it up to a battery and you should be fine.
