I recently posted a problem about the running light not working in my '79 LTD tail light. The problem turned out to be a burned out fuse, 10 amp with the blue/red wire.

Fixing that opened another can of worms. Now the right rear turn signal and the right signal indicator on the dash stay lit all the time. I'm trying to figure out the cause.

My LTD has the rear turn signals installed but no front signals. I think this model had those signals that mounted on the handlebar and I also think each had two wires.

Today I opened up the headlight shell and took off the tank, in search of the connectors where the turn signals would hook up. I did not find any spare connectors.

Can someone tell me the front turn signals should connect to the wiring harness on a '79 LTD?

Thanks, Mike

I have a 1982 GPz1100, I believe the wiring for most systems really does not change too much for different years.

If you bike had front running lights(I'm not sure when Kawasaki added them)your RIGHT front would have the following colors:

BLUE,running light circuit.
GRAY,turn signal circuit.
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

For the LEFT front, the colors will be:
BLUE,running light circuit.
GREEN,turn signal circuit(possibly going to a gray wire from the signal)
BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.

If there are no wires to connect to, Either the previous owner removed them completely, or they were never there.

I just put a fairing on my '78 LTD so I had some recent experience with these lights.

The connections are inside the headlight bucket. The right side wires are blue and gray and the left side are blue and green. This is confirmed by the wiring diagram in my Clymer's. The ground wires are black/yellow. Perhaps when the front turn signals were removed someone clipped off the wires, not a great idea.

I sure wouldn't want to ride without front turn signals, it's dangerous and probably illegal.

Making some progress. I re-opened the headlight shell and noted two sets of wires. Set one had a gray wire and a blue wire. Set two had a gray wire and a green one. The sets appeared to be properly connected male to female and colors matching. These are the colors for the turn signals but there are no turn signals. So I unplugged all four wires.

Now the rear turn signals turn on and off properly, along with the light on the dash. Of course the rear signals don't blink since the front ones aren't hooked up.

Next - get a set of turn signals for the front and figure out how to wire them.
