82 kz550 ltd - tach doesn't work

Hey guys! So, I bought this bike for cheap, and to my surprise everything works fine! Except the tachometer. It just wiggles near zero. When I tap it, it just wiggles near zero. Do you guys think it's a magnet or cable issue? I'm totally lost, where's a good starting point for me to figure it out? Thanks!

Tach cable might just be loose where it attaches to the engine or where it attaches to bottom of the tach. If loose, tightening it may resolve the issue.

But might be broken tach cable (the part inside the sheath).

If inner cable is broken, it's easy and inexpensive to replace the entire cable.

it was the cable, thanks for the insight! it'll be nice to have a visual cue as to how hard the engine is working!
