I can draw up a diagram similar to what Leon posted, but I need to know if you are running points? Also you mentioned a combo regulator rectifier. Is that confirmed. Can you post a pic of the reg/rec and maybe someone here can confirm it's a combo or a stand-alone reg or rec?

YOU DA MAN!!!
I dont have a pic with me, But the part is: kokusan RS2127. You can see it in the main photo of the bike, its Rightside of the battery tray.
I have a pretty good feeling that its not a combo.... the guy I bought it from told me it was but.... it doesnt look like one at all. Anyway, I also have a 12v Reg/Rec combo off of a cb900 here. I was givin it and a crappy little drawing and told that "It SHOULD Work"

I Can try it, Ill Send you some pics of it if you think it might.
THANK YOU!!!

this pice is the cb900 REG/Rec Combo I Was Givin.

That regulator on the bike does look like the original regulator-only... not a combo. So there is no rectifier anywhere? Probably removed.

If you are near the bike, the small cover on the right end of the motor is where the ignition is. Open it and see if there are points in there.

That reg/rec combo from the CB900 doesn't look like it will work. Your bike doesn't have the green and white wires going to the alternator. They might be for a field coil, which your bike does not use. So that regulator is for a different type of alternator.

Looks like you will need a combo reg/rec for a 77/78 KZ1000. See if OregonMotorcycleParts.com has one. If they do, it'll probably be the least expensive one out there with a good warranty.

By the way, I don't know why I thought it was a 77 or 78, but do we know what year it is for sure? Or at least the amnufacture date from the frame neck?

I'm assuming that is from the serial number. Does anybody know if that means KZ1000A or KZ1000B? I thought the KZ1000A had spokes, according to the filebase photo. The 77 KZ1000B (LTD) had mag wheels.

Either way, I think the wiring is basically the same. Here is a preliminary diagram for the seperate regulator and rectifier. If the regulator has pink, Yellow, and blue wires to the alternator, then you have to keep those wires in the correct order.

If you get a combo later, then it will probably have three yellows and it doesn't matter which pink, yellow, or blue wire goes to which of the three yellows on the combo.
