hi guys. as most of you know i am having a few bumps in the restoration road. i have 1 green 3 ohm dyna coil. i am purchasing another used 1 here shortly. im not sure yet, but if my dyna 3 electronic ignition is bad, do i have to use the same one? i have the black one shown in the pic. i guess what i am asking is if i cant find another one like i have can i use another one, and which one? btw i also have a new but used wire harness comming. thanks Joe

You could also use a Dyna S ignition. It replaces the timing plate and eliminates the black box. It uses the same coils as the Dyna III.

loudhvx has a write up on how to use 2 HEI, those are from the older GM cars/ Trucks, Modules with the stock Kawasaki pick-up coils. Shoot him a PM and he can hook ya up. Easy to do with you Dyna Pick-ups if they are still good, I would think anyway. Just send him a PM he will set you on a course to get something going.

Is what you have, and a phone call to them can find out availability, or if any parts are available.

Wouldn't yet give up on the existing Dyna III which might still be serviceable.

Good Fortune! :)

i talked to larry at dynatek. he is sending me a trouble shooting guide for the system i currently have. if it does not work he will upgrade me to the dyna s system for 69 bucks if i send him the old ingition box and sensor plate.

so once i get my damn bike back...lol ill trouble shoot it.

what i dont understand is that if the dyna s replaces the box...it only has 2 wires right? how would that hook up to 2 coils that have 4 wires?

Terminal screw head on Dyna coil primary is dangerously near the coil mounting spacer (usually metal). Am thinking this was mentioned but not fully addressed in one of the other threads.

Here, seems to be something wrapped around the spacer (presumably for insulation).
Methods vary. Some replace metal spacers with plastic or nylon spacers, use a piece of rubber, etc.

I just use tie wraps around the spacers (see right pic below).

Good Fortune! :)
