i got a 77 650kzb1 from a freind and wiring is all messed up!
having a problem with wiring diagram!!!!
in the diagram the yellow/red wire from the starter relay ties into to a black and yellow, that goes to the regulator , rectifier , a ground wire! (follow it)

the problem is that i did it that way, and almost bunrt it up.. is the black wire from the starter relay a ground or ?

i want to take everything off except charging system!!

has anyone got a modded print of this or should i make my own?

I don't get your avatar either,, this isn't a political forum. At least most of us try not to make it one. As far you the electical problem, it would help if you would give us some sort of information on what " im having a problem with a small part of it" means???

Look at the wiring diagram for your model on www.kz650.info and see if it matches yours. It looks like you have three black wires coming off the starter relay. One goes to the battery, one goes to the starter motor and one goes to the starter lockout switch. The red/yellow meets up with ground (black/yellow).

Hope this helps!

i have two black and one red/ yellow off the starter relay.

but when i try hooking them up they ground out and smoke!!!

what is the black wire off the starter relay? ground or power? and red/yellow?
i did it the way the manuale said and it wont start!
i do it my way and it starts
( my way both leads from coils to battery and starts right up for a few moments til i hit the gas)

it will idle but not to long

do i need a battry or can i take it out, and rewire it so i can just use the kick start?
i dont want lights or anything just spark and charging system to run it, is this possible

any try this before?

The starter solenoid circuit is one of the times when Kawasaki uses black as a hot wire. The black wire from the start button to the solenoid will have 12 volts on it when you hit the button. There may be a lockout switch on the clutch lever. If so, the black wire goes through that switch too.

Here's a diagram for a bike I wired. It just has charging system, electronic ignition, and lights.

loadhvx has it right. Those (the black) are not grounding wires, those are hot wires. One should head to the battery and one should head to the starter lockout which is a switch in the clutch handle. One thing that I have seen with these lockout switches (the same type were used on the 440 for a front brake light switch) is that if put together incorrectly, they can short out to the handlebar which is ground. If no-one has messed with that switch, then it should be fine.

On my 650, I haven't even used the starter relay yet (I am waiting on one), so I don't know if mine even works yet. I DO know that if it is having idling problems it could be due to a multitude of things from carbs, to points/condensers, to timing.

Not sure if I helped or not, but just thought I would pass on more info. :D

Yeah, it's crazy, but many KZ's are like that. At first I thought someone re-wired my bike wrong but that's how they are.
