What nuts? on the coils? Could be grounding out on something when the nuts are tight, check and see if they need isolators.

The stock Kawasaki ignition coils on the Kz1000,and Kz/GPz 1100's have two bolts on each coil with spacers with 1/4" quick disconnect electrical conections(male tabs).
On the aftermarket Dyna coils, the same mounting hardware is used but the electrical connectors are 10-32 screws that come close to the bike's backbone.if the supplied screws are lost and the correct ones are not used, there is achance the screws will bottom out before the fastener gets tight.
I believe the correct terminal screw length is 5/16", a 3/8" screw would be too long.

What he's speaking of is the Coil frame mounting bolt through the coil plates... See how close it is to the +12Vdc terminal....
With the Dyna coils, you have to raise the coil slightly using spacer tube... If it's metal it's conductive... Henceforth you use a heat shrink tube or tape where it's not shorting the +12Vdc to frame ground....
See Images...

Oh and dude, scotch locks are bad news they only corrode and/or cut the wire and cause more problems I'd soldier and shrink or butt connect any that exist.
