Magneto question was created by mjkawa
anyone here ever adapt a magento to your kz?
My assumption is that this will eliminate the battery?
My starter clutch is shot, so I have to kick start anyway.
I like the idea of loosing the weight.
Are there any other drawbacks? And where could one get these parts?
Thanks

If your bike uses a permanent magnet for the alternator/flywheel, you may not even need a magneto.
I can go batteryless on my 550 as long as I replace the battery with a 6000 to 12,000 micro-farad (35v to 50v) capacitor.
I don't think it will work if you are using a Dyna ignition. It should work with a stock ignition.

Thanks for all the info.
I like the capacitor idea.
Is there any performance advantages (besides batery weight), or disadvantages?
Should I just choose a capacitor in that range? Is larger or smaller better? or just find one that works?
Thanks for the ideas.

No advantages other than weight. The disadvantages are possible loss of voltage at idle. There is another thread going right now that addresses that issue.
