GPZ750 gauges on a KZ750 L3? was created by staniel
The gauges on my L3 are long dead. The speedo broke a month after I bought it and the tach went soon after. I replaced the whole thing by getting an old cluster online for $5 and cutting it to fit. The tach was useless as my bike has electronic drive for a tach, so I just have a speedometer.

My question is: do most of the GPZ clusters from that era (1981-1985) have electronic drive on the tach and mechanical drive on the speedo? If so, is it possible to mount them to the bike?

There are zero KZ750 L3 clusters available on ebay and quite a few GPZ750 clusters, and it'd sure be nice to know how fast I'm going AND how fast the engine's turning, especially since I'm gonna be breaking in the honed cylinders and new rings soon.

If I'm barking up the wrong tree, what do you folks do to replace the clusters on these old bikes? I saw on MBSween's site that he went 19 years without proper gauges, but I hope that's only because he demanded actual, legit, KZ750 L3 gauges - a requirement I do not have :).

You could look into Acewel or Koso gauges, A Vapour would do the trick as well.

They will all require a speed sensor for the speedo, there are a few threads on here about the Acewel gauges.

I have a 750L3 gauge cluster I'd sell as well, functions but the face is deteriorated, not sure how hard it would be to change the one over from your gauge set ? Let me know if your interested.

PMed. Also, I'll look into those aftermarket gauges when I get home. I'm gonna guess they cost a lot of dollars, but maybe when I get a job I'll get fancy.
