KZ 305 Electronic to points swap info

I just got an 87 305 Saturday. The bike is in great condition for a free one except the ignitor won't ignite.
No spark, zero nada. So I started looking for a replacement and found that a new one is gonna set me back about $400.00 + shipping which would bring the total investment so far in this bike to roughly $425.00 + shipping. However all the stuff is there to rewire it back to the points set up for less than $50.00 total.
So unless I have overlooked something that will just jump out at me and there is actually nothing wrong with it as it sits I'm going the points route. Does anyone know of anyone else who has gone this route? Any advice you can give?

That looks like it has electronic advance on it. How would points fit in? What mechanical advancer would work? The stator appears to have a special winding for the ignition. But is it to provide the primary power for the coils, or is it simple a voltage generator so the igniter knows the crank speed (to control the electronic advance)?
