The question is, is the cable the same going from the gear on the wheel to the speedometer? And will I have to also get the wheel gear off of the 75 or 76 kz for the speed to be accurate or will mine work and not be off?
Thanks for any information!

I've got a 1980 kz750 e-1 that has an 85 mph speedometer. I'm wanting a 75 or 76 speedometer which goes to 130 or 140 mph.
The question is, is the cable the same going from the gear on the wheel to the speedometer? And will I have to also get the wheel gear off of the 75 or 76 kz for the speed to be accurate or will mine work and not be off?
Thanks for any information!
Can't recall off-hand the earlier thread topic on this subject, but do recall that the 85 mph speedometer could be replaced with a similar 130+ version, and would be accurate without any change to the speedometer drive at the front axle.
In other words, may keep using the same speedo drive at the front axle.
is the cable the same going from the gear on the wheel to the speedometer? YES
will I have to also get the wheel gear off of the 75 or 76 kz for the speed to be accurate -- NO
will mine work and not be off? YES, it will work and it will not be off.
Let us know if you have difficulty locating the earlier thread via the search function.

I found the thread where someone was switching a speedo on an 83 ksr1300? For a 160 mph unit but figured this was too different.
Thanks for the replies!
