I finally finished setting up the carbs on Sat, put on the new wheels/tires on Sunday. Rode to work on Monday.
On the way home I kept blowing the main fuse, I used every fuse I had trying to make it home, by the next to last fuse I thought maybe had something to do to brake lights, forgot to pull the rear brake light spring off and blew the last fuse. Stopped found some cigeret pack foil, wrapped it around the main fuse and prayed all the way home (about a 1/4mi) that the brake light really was the problem.
Autopsy of the brake light switch showed it really was the problem. The copper ring that makes the connection inside had slipped up and was contacting the metal pulldown rod and shorting through the spring to ground.
Whew, It was only the switch, and I didn't cook anything.
Just something else to check if you are blowing main fuses at intermittant times.
