If known, what year KZ440 (model too, if available)?
Perhaps there's a wiring diagram on site here at KZR.

Might find the year of manufacture on a white sticker located on right side of the steering neck. Or maybe in the ownership papers.

Good Fortune1 :)

Thinking KZ440-D is a 1982 model.

The nearest wiring diagram I could find here on site is for a 1980 KZ440 model. Am guessing it's reasonably close to the 1982 model.

For a downloadable wiring diagram of a 1980 KZ440 model, click on the link below, and scroll down until seeing the applicable download button.

Click > kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_docman&...w&gid=134&Itemid=108

Would also check out the downloadable material under "81-83 440A.D Wiring"
Click > kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_docman&...w&gid=198&Itemid=108

Usually, after downloaded, the diagram may be opened in MS Paint or other program, which may help to better manage the image sizing, etc.

Good Fortune! :)

one weird thing is that the engine still revs up when I connect it to battery from my car. When I turn the ignition switch and key to the on position and press the start button the engine revs up but still no spark or lights

this was a kz bobber project i purchased so the wiring might be a little off.

one motorcycle mechanic suggest just rewiring the whole thing
since the wires are too confusing to chase since they have been spliced and ran many different ways.

what is your opinion?

The starting and ignition circuits are seperate on most motorcycles. If it turns over, that means that circuit works, but you're not getting a spark for ignition.

I'd get a multimeter and start checking where voltage is and isn't.Put the meter on VDC(Volts D.C.),range of 20, the RED probe on the same terminal as the RED wire, the BLACK probe on a good ground, or the Negative battery terminal.

If no voltage is present at the ignition coil, then check by going backwards, the run/stop switch, and the ignition switch, and the fuses/fuse clips.
