hi i was just reading a few of the postings here and i have a similar problem as the guy with the 78 650 has with the electrical / starting problems ...a few weeks ago i went to laconia for bike week, i lost my keys from the ignition on the ride home ...therefore had to pop the ignition so to speak ...got it so it would start and got the bike home ...ran it for a day then the bike was not wanting to start with the starter ...so i used the kicker ...then it would start with only the kicker ...nothing from the starter ..i replaced the igntion with the battery disconnected ...charged the battery a little got the lights and horn to work but not the starter ..didnt charge enuff i figure ....got the bike to run for about 10 minutes went to add gas ..shut her off and right back to nothing ,,even with the kicker ...i was reading the manual ..should i try looking at the points as well as the fuses ...any help???

It sounds like it's not charging. Check the rectifier.

When you hot wired the bike to get it home did you leave the ignition "hot". That would drain the battery.
