while looking over the points yesterday I discovered one had no spring on it. I had one very similar to the one that was there, maybe a little more tension. I put it in and it seems to be running OK. My question is will this have a long term affect, will it be messing anything up three months from now? Any help would be great! Thanx for your time and effortrs ... PEACE Larry

The only problem I can see is that if the tension is greater the part of the points that rubs on the cam or the cam itself may wear prematurely. I would just be sure the cam and the felt grease carrier are kept lubed until you replace the points. Ed

Thanx Ed for the quick response. Do you think that grease for electrical connections would be OK to use on the points. I think it is white lithum grease ... PEACE Larry

Since you have the Martek, are you talking about the points or the "Advancer" springs. There is a BIG difference. If you are talking about the advancer springs than the springs matter a lot. They will affect the advance curve and the performance of the engine will be tremendously affected. The points springs are leaf springs and the advancer springs are coil extension springs.

The springs seen in this picture are advancer springs.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationOK if you are talking about those than you will have to get "advancer springs" for that bike. The springs determine the advance curve. This will definitely affect the way the bike runs. Do you have the OE Kawasaki service manual? You can use an advancer from a KZ900 or a KZ1000. The curve will be a little different but it will run fine. The springs are not available by themselves and only come with the advancer. Here is one for your bike.

As far as getting the correct advancer, I found in the paper work the old man gave me " Martek 440 addendum to installation instructions for Kawasaki KZ-650. " The first line reads " Install the 440 using the instructions for the Honda motorcycle; however, connect the wiring as follows: " Then it goes on too give the wire colors etc.
So needless to say I am confused about which advancer will be the correct one. I am getting so frustrated. Im about to junk the @#$%&*! bike and call it good. Any way, I appreciate all you have done. Thanx again ... PEACE Larry
