Headlight and Tail lights Blew out

This is on my 1978 kz200

I started my kz200 the other night but forgot my positive on my Battery was loose. It caused the headlight and tail lamp to pop. 2 new bulbs and a correctly tightend battery everything seems fine.

Is there actually something wrong with the electrical system or does the battery need to be in place to act as a buffer?

The battery acts like a surge tank absorbing the excess power from the charging system. On the bigger 4's, the alternator runs wide open with the regulator/rectifier controlling the charge going to the battery.

On your bike the turn signal bulbs could have been popped along with any instrument lighting too.

It's a good idea to once in a while check the tightness of the many and various fasteners on your bike. Motorcycles create many frequencies and magnitudes of vibration.

Definetly will need to go over everything on the bike like you said.
