The felt oiler for my 1978 KZ 650 is missing. It goes below the two sets of points. I tried to purchase one from a Kawasaki dealer but was told they were discontinued. Does anyone know were I could get one or how I could make one? What type of oil do I put on it?

Don't know if you can still source exactly the same part. But felt wiper/ oiler was common through the automotive industry. I still have a tube of Bosch Points High Temp Grease. It goes on at the cam wear block at the points. Use it very rarely as points are mostly an antique. If possible you should convert to an electronic, guys have gone straight to the Kawasaki system from the 80's.

Would be okay to squeeze in a scrap piece of felt, and add one drop of light weight oil.

Good Fortune! :)

Oil lubes ever so slightly the cammed rotor on which the points heels ride.

Helps protect the points heels from wearing away so fast.

Good Fortune! :)

A thick piece of felt about 1/2 inch long should work. Here's grease made specifically for points cams:

That Bosch grease has served me very well for 30 years, although I rarely use it these days. Last use was on a RX7 distributor shaft, as I was changing the advance curve.
This grease can go right at the rubbing block on the points set, and if you take apart you can use it to lube your advancer.
