Starter 75 Z1 900

Is there a common problem with 75 Z1 as far as starter not working with handle bar switch, yet can be "hot-wired" and will work fine? I.E. is there a common problem with a starter relay? or does Neutral saftey switch go bad often? Neutral light shows up on panel as green when hot wired, bike starts and runs when hot wired....maybe handlebar switch is the problem ?.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

Open up the right handlebar switchpod. Look for dirty contacts/broken wires/broken soldering.

If the contacts are dirty spray them with electrical contact cleaner and work them (push off and on several times)DO NOT USE WD-40! as it will form a non conductive film later on.

Look inside the headlight housing as a majority of electrical connectors are there.
