No Spark on my KZ750B was created by 1979KZ750Twin
Hey guys I have a 1979 KZ 750 Twin that I can't get to spark. It ran a few weeks ago but I put it away for a few weeks to clean the carb. Now it wont spark. I replaced the points, condenser, ignition coil, and rectifier. It seems to be getting power into the ignition coil as I can wire a light between the battery and coil and it lights up. I also tested the wiring in the key ignition and kill switch harnesses with a continuity tester and they all seemed to be wired correctly with no open circuits. The battery also has a little more than 12v according to the voltmeter. After all this I still cant get it to spark. Can anyone help me get it to spark again?

Look at the wire where it attaches to the points, it's probably grounded continuously because it's on the wrong side.

Should have 12V at the points when open.

+1 Everybody has done that at some point. As said, use a voltmeter to make sure you get the 12V on the blue wire (negative primary coil lead) when the points open.

Also, if you took the "cam" off the shaft that rides against the points, it could have gone back on 180 degrees out. There is a 50-50 chance it will go on wrong but it does it 100% of the time.

Thanks a lot guys! The points were grounding out. I took them apart and rewired it to make sure it wasn't grounding and it sparks now.

Thanks for your help guys! I'm kinda new to fixing old bikes so I'm sure I'll be around here a lot to learn more.
