speedometer

i have a 1984 kawasaki ZN1100. The speedometer has gone bad and i cant find one nor do i want to pay that much for one. ive seen a bunch on ebay. can i use just any speedometer or do i have to find one specific for my bike. also my tack just kinda bounces around i dont know how to fix that. what i want to do it take off the guage cluster and just mount a tach and a speedometer to the bars and just ride. anyone know anything to help me. thanks.
