1982 kz550 starter question was created by blubill
Did the starter between a 1981 and a 1982 change for the kz550? My friend told me they should be the same part so I bought a 1981 starter on eBay but when I went to put it in the gears look different. Am I doing something wrong or is it just totally a different part and I need to buy one specifically for 1982?

Thanks

Thanks a lot! Here is a pic of the original (on the right) and the one I bought for eBay that was supposed to match it lol.

After doing some research it looks like it's supposed to go in a KZ650. Part number is SM-224.

For future repairs & parts Kawasaki.com has a cross-reference & other info in the owner info section. I find it easiest to do the Search-by-Model-Info without fumbling around w a vin or anything. Just pick a year only then choose a bike from the list. The diagram reference numbers are usually clickable which speeds up finding the full part number below. A lot of other stuff can be clicked as well, so click stuff.
