Changing the ignition switch (key) was created by gte105u
I have a new ignition switch on the way for my '81 KZ550. I was thumbing through the manual and did not see where it talks about how to change this out. Anyone have any info to pass along? How do you get down to it, anything that might surprise me, is it overall pretty simple?

On my 82 GPz1100, I have to lower the headlight housing(remove the headlight to prevent breaking the glass)to gain access to the two socket head cap screws(Allen Screws) holding the ignition switch to it's mounting place.

The wiring will simply unplug with the new switches wiring plugging in it's place.

For safety's sake, disconnect the BLACK(-) Negative battery terminal to prevent fire, smoke, explosions, and general panic before doing the repair/replacement.

These old ignition switches get a lot of use,and vibration is not kind to them either.
