Found it, part 28019-001 $55.00 !
Do I need this thing? The tail and brake light work or will it relate to something else down the line?

When mine failed I built my own, but you need to be electronically inclined.
NOTE: I HAVE THE SCHEMATIC FOR IT IN A PDF DOCUMENT IF ANYBODY WANTS IT, I CAN SEND IT IN AN EMAIL.
FYI, the unit is mounted in a rubber harness along the frame in the vicinity of the battery but behind it on the right hand side if I recall correctly. I think it sits next to the turn signal flasher.
NO, not required. It blinks the indicator on the dash when the brake light bulb fails. Very nice to have, not mandatory.Found it, part 28019-001 $55.00 !

Okay Im polishing things up here, tank and parts painted, need to zero in on a chain and sprocket setup but other than that I'm good.
Brown field wire... can that simply tap into the +brake light wire? It's switched LOL. Cheating perhaps but I don't see why I can't go that way?

According to Kawasaki, the KZ750 B1 and B2 twins had a field coil. The B3 and B4 twins did not.
Yours is a B4, so it does not have a field coil. The brown wire on the combination reg/rec is a voltage sense line, and yes, you can tap it into the positive side of the tail light wiring.

On most Kawasaki's the rear lighting circuits are:
1.BLUE(sometimes with a RED stripe), the brake light circuit.
2.RED, the tail light or running light circuit.
3.BLACK with YELLOW stripe, the ground circuit.
