And all I was doing was changing the battery!

At the risk of exposing myself as a complete moron, I have a spare part.

I know a little about engines and am learning about bike engines (engine is an engine, right?). Anyway, I was changing out the battery on my 1982 KZ750. There was a red wire attached to the positive post and a black/red wire grounded at the tray. I'm assuming this went to the coil? When I lifted the battery out, I accidentally hooked the wire and it came out freely (no resistance whatsoever). The other end is a male connector. I have searched everywhere and can't find the female end for this connector. Other than the terminal wires, these were the only things attached to the posts.

So, ummmm  ...can anyone help?

Thanks,

oKZ

See attached for the KZ750-E3 wiring diagram... Please insure it's your model....

Anyhoot, one off the RED conductors feeds into a split/jumpered inline fuse holder. The other red feeds into the fuse box...

Either case, off your main harness, look for a RED conductor Female connector. Before inserting, measure continuity to either fuse holder or visually confirm it insuring that is the correct conductor feed to the fuse.

Good luck...

By any chance is it an accessory lead.
My 81 650 has one, but I believe it's got a female connector on it.

Pull off the right hand side cover to get a better look at things.

I'm not 100% clear on what you wrote, but I'm assuming you've got the battery connected otherwise & you've got the spare short wire w the male terminal on it.
