headlight ?

hey guys i have a 77 kz 1000 and the headlight sucks on it. i can barley see at night making it impossible to take the bike out when it gets dark. i bought a light off ebay and put it no longer lsealed beam and still hardley no light. what light can i put in it or what device will make this light bright as f..k

Is it the 7" round standard light? You can get a 7" round halogen sealed beam that is a lot brighter than stock. Same wattage as stock (40W/55W)

I would suspect some other issue besides the bulb itself.

To aid diagnosis, could jump bike battery from known good car battery with NEITHER ENGINE RUNNING, and check brightness of bike headlight while the bike battery is being boosted by the car battery.

I use a Wagner 7" halogen sealed beam. It works very well. You can also use the H4 (non-sealed) type halogen bulbs if you buy the lens/reflector. Ed

I run a Bosch halogen with a H4 bulb in mine. It lights things up nicely.

Have +12Vdc or higher at the bulb?

What bulb wattage is in their now?

Even old KZ lamps allowed for night riding... Sure not as bright as new technologies but as you wrote "i can barley see at night making it impossible to take the bike out when it gets dark. ".... the first thing to me is dc voltage low at the connections.... or grounding...
