wiring points and condensers was created by jtate1000
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum, and have bought my first KZ. It's a '78 KZ1000 B2. I have installed new points/condensers, and forgot to pay attention to where the wires for both attached to the points. Can someone PLEASE help with this. It seems simple enough but don't want to try them if it's not wired properly. Thanks in advance!

I believe you are in uncharted territory here. Most everyone has converted to electronic ignition. The schematic in your manual will show all the connections and specs for points. I haven't had points on a bike since 1978. If you don't have a manual, you will find the schematics in the "KZ Information section of this sight.

J, perhaps this will help. Look at your' points/breaker assy. the fixed side of points is ground. with the mobile side of contact isolated at pivot by phenolic body, & power to arm isolated via a series of insolating washers/collars preventing contact from wire leads/screw/nut/lock washers to base. confirm these are all inproper relation...(simple logic) mount points on breaker plate & install sans power & cond. Center backing plate loosly, & set 1-4 to optimum gap.attach ohm meter to ground, & spring blade & rotate crank, verify continuity w/points closed & infinity when open. ditto 2-3.. attach cond & power wires to outside of springblade of moble arms (breaker cam is inside). fire up and set timing 1-4 via backing plate w/ timing light. repeat w/2-3, by again setting gap 1st , then timing via the plate which points mount on for 2-3 to backing plate. re-check timing 1-4, as this will change if 2-3 was off w/original settings, if changed, re-check 2-3. idle,done...rev to 4-5 grand, & verify advance unit comes to spec's.. if so your' done. (til next time) This is as good as it gets, The beauty of Dyna s (others) is it only needs be done once. luck G
