Have you tested it as per manual instructions?
I know there's aftermarket ones available too, new.
I'll try to find the post with the suppliers name.

Do you have the factory manual for the bike? - it should have a wiring diagram.
Does the bike have points ignition or electronic ignition?

What specific model do you have? - e.g., 1980 KZ650-F1
Or better yet, what excactly is your engine serial number? Knowing the number would help a lot in determining what you actually have.
A quick question: looking at your stator cover, does it have 3 bolts in the center like the cover in the pic below?
If it does, your engine is from a 77 B1 or C1 - these two models use an alternator that was only used that year. They also use a separate voltage regulator and rectifier and the alternator/reg/rec is wired very differently from the rest of the 650s.

Like already said, your engine serial number would be a big help - it is stamped on top right side of the cases, right next to the oil filler cap.
Some good pics of the engine and possibly the innards would help too.
