Ok -Im making progress! I found a broken green wire under the tank-now my nuetral light works fine but I still have to pull the clutch in to start. Can the clutch switch be bad or adjusted? Is there a way to check that?
thanks

There is a switch on the clutch lever. You can just tie the wires together if you want to bypass that safety function.

Yes, this is by design. As loudhvx wrote, you can short the wires, if you want to disable this feature. There should be a connector (probably under the tank somewhere) that connects the wires from the clutch switch into the main wiring harness. You can disconnect the wires, then run a jumper across the connectors on the harness side.

I triple those statements. That is by design, yes you can eliminate that by cutting the wires to the clutch lever switch and splicing the two wires together. I however can not think of a single rational reason why you would want to. The reason the switch is there is because too many riders mistake the starter switch for the horn button in a panic and you wind up wiping out your starter clutch or worse.
