kz1000 stator in a kz650? was created by hardr0ck68
I want to run a larger stator to get more amp's so I can run my O2 sensor. I have been planning on using an electro-sport stator but after reading an article about kz650's it seems Kawasaki recommends using a kz1000 stator.
Has anyone ever tried this? What years kz1000 stators work best?

If you have the stock 77 KZ 650 alternator a KZ 1000 stator will not work (physical dimensions aside) - the 77 650s (B1 and C1) run excited field alternators, the 1000s run permanent magnet alternators. There's some background info a few posts down in
this thread.

this will not be for a stock system; thanks for the ehads up; I forgot to mention.
I will be using a 3 phase permanent mag setup from a gpz750; with the correct rec/reg

Yea the 1977 650 is a whole different setup, but even looking at the setup on a 1977-78 KZ1000 vs a newer KZ650 the setup is not even close to the same. On the KZ1000 the rotor is small and spins inside the large stator, on a 650 the rotor is large and spins outside the stator, so if the swap did work you'd have to change rotor and stator for sure at least, and would the entirely different KZ1000 stator still mount on a KZ650 cover? No would be my guess. Whats an O2 sensor?

I'd ask the people at
www.electrosport.com
too as they have overwound stators that produce higher output at low rpm's.
Some other websites to look at:

an O2 sensor gives you a fuel air ratio that can be used for carb tuning. I loath jetting changes; of all the work that I could be doing it is perhaps the most un-rewarding. Using an o2 sensor I can save myself loads of time and know for sure that I am jetted correctly.
However they are high draw little buggers, you need for feed the gauge, the computer and the sensor itself which has a heating element....

Evad put a higher out put stator on his fuel injected 650;
"ok , all went well charging output is enough to support the heated WB o2 sensor, fuel pump, and all the other fuel injection stuff as well as the dyna s ignition/ esecially noticed that the charging at lower rpms is much improved."
Info can be found at the end of this post:
