Depending on the year and model motorcycle you have it could be one of a hundred things. You will have to check all of them. The steps are all in your service manual. For your particular motorcycle.

I would first do this:

1.Fully charge the battery.

2.Remove the gas tank.

3.Turn the ignition switch and run/stop switch to the "On position.(The engine will not be running for this test).

5.Using a mutimeter set on D.C. Volts, range of 20, touch the RED probe where the RED wire goes on the ignition coils(the primary winding side).

6.Touch the BLACK probe on any good grounded part of the frame.

7.You should be able to read the same as battery voltage.

8.If the reading are a lot lower than battery voltage, you have corrosion on switches or in the many and various electrical connectors.

9.I use a very good brand of electrical contact cleaner/preservative called "De-oxit" available at Radio Shack stores in the U.S. www.deoxit.com is their website.

Another thought is if you're running the stock ignition points, maybe the capacitors(condensors for the Brits) are going out and need replacement.Ignition coils can overheat and fail too.

If you're running a Kawasaki supplied electronic ignition, possibly the IC Igniter is failing. I'd check/replace the sparkplug caps too as they have a resistor inside designed to reduce the RFI when the plugs fire so radio's and t.v.'s don't hear the snap and pop.
