Use strobe type timing light to align F mark for 1/4 with case mark at idle rpm. Repeat for 2/3.

Watch advancer quickly move back and forth as throttle is blipped.

Good Fortune! :)

Advancer marks may look like this one.

Ignore the T mark for purposes of ignition timing.

Good Fortune! :)

so i take it that i should set my timing light at 0' and at idle make sure the f mark and the line in the case match up.

Yes, presuming the timing light is adjusted to flash when the plug fires.

Good Fortune! :)

The mechanical advancer should be able to be moved by hand and then return to it's original setting, if not, it may need cleaning and lubrication on the pivot joints(places where the springs attach, the weights pivots, and the main shaft where the securing bolt goes).

Take pictures/notes as to how it's assembled as it can be 180 out if put back together wrong.

So for my own benefit, what happens if the timing is a little off? How can you adjust it to be right?

One of two ways...

In the DYNA installation procedure, after the plate is installed and wired correctly, you first do a static alignment with a (+12Vdc light to ground) light probe.

Then you adjust the individual pickups that are on the plate by loosening the screws for each pickup.

In Dynamic, you loosen the plate screws themselves and rotate the plate for timing light alignments and test for 1/4 & 2/3 timing.

Here's a write I up I put together when doing mine... Located in the KZR file base... ;)

My bike came with electronic ignition and does not have the slots to make adjustments. I will ream out the holes to make slots if I need it then I guess, thanks! In your instructions you say at the end to rev up to 2500 rpm and use a strobe light using the "T" mark, I thought "T" was just for finding top dead center

"No slots to make adjustments."...

Safe to assume that the OEM procedure would be to align the pickups them, selves then... Your manual should be able to provide some insight on how to accomplish....

Is your timing off per specifications then?

If the oem ignition timing isn't adjustable, do the timing marks fail to align when viewed under a strobe type timing light?
