How to find out key number ?

Hey all,

Just bought a 79 Kz650B (cheap) but previous owner lost the keys. How can I find out the key number? I have taken the switch and seat latch out . They both Have Z5418 stamped on them. Is there a way to get a key number from that? Don't want to change the switch or seat latch if I don't absolutly have to.

i have the same problem on my 1981 kz1000j...i also took the ignition and elec tail thingy out and saw numbers and put it in my tool box tray....slacker....lol....

I was at a locksmiths on an unrelated window hardware mission...i mentioned my moto prob.......no problem....the guy will need the ignition...told me he can get a key cut from the outer numbers...or if he has to take the tumbler appart....25-45 depending on which route he has to go to do it..... and he will give me two sets of keys and shop test em for smooth action......i've yet to get back to him...good luck.....

If you got the numbers a member here can help. rstnick does keys for these bikes iirc. Shoot him a PM to see if he can be of help

Check the seat lock, they usually have the key number on them.

I should be able to make keys.
Just have to check the program at work on Monday.
