Im trying to troubleshoot an old 550. I cranked it up the other day, and it started almost instantly. It ran for maybe 20 seconds and died. And I mean it died. the battery is putting out sufficient voltage, but nothing works. No lights no starter. Its like the battery is completely dead. I checked the main fuse, and its ok. Just wanting some advice on where I need to start.

Thanks in advance,
Dean

Would assure good connections at battery terminals.

And also assure good connection where negative battery cable attaches to the rear of engine.

Charge battery overnight. Try again. :cheer:

Good Fortune! :)

Sometimes the fuse is okay, but has a failed connection to the fuse. A connector clip might be badly corroded.

Would check for positive battery voltage in wiring just after the "good" fuse.

If a wiring diagram hasn't already been consulted, it should help to have one.

Select one of the 550's

Download the wiring diagram.

Note the "main" 20 amp fuse is fed by a red/white wire from the positive battery terminal. Appears to be one inline connector in the red/white wire between the battery and the fuse.

If there's voltage at the positive battery terminal, but none at the fuse, then there's likely a break or disconnect somewhere in the red/white wire or in its inline connector, or where the wire attaches to the battery, or where the wire clips to the fuse.

Would first check attachment of the red/white wire at the positive battery terminal. And then check for voltage at the inline connector on the red/white wire.

Good Fortune! :)
