KZ1000P Generator Rated Output was created by zrexerik
I'd like to use my Gerbings heated clothing on my KZ1100B1, but the installed generator doesn't have the output needed. The later model KZ1000P's have a different rotor (stator and V/R are the same). I guessing the different rotor generates more amps than the one on my GPz and should bolt right on.

Anyone know what the rated output is?

www.electrosport.com sells stators(the wire windings) that will put out higher output at lower rpm's.

I believe the GPz's have the same size stators as the cop Kz's

The part numbers are different. I'm assuming all the extra lights and other loads on the police bike req'd more output from the generator, hence the different part number.

The site you linked is currently out of stock for my bike and they list the same generator despite different Kawasaki p/n's. Still would like to know what the difference is between the stock generators.

Your stator output is in the 250 to 280 watt neighbourhood. Don't feel too bad, my '78 has only 190 watts to work with.

Before you change your wiring, hook up the gear and with the bike running, check your voltage at the battery. If you can maintain 13.5 volts or so w/o blowing any fuses or your regulator getting too hot, then your alternator is up to the job.

my $0.02

The part #s of the alternators did not change until the very end. They were identical threw the 80s and most of the 90s. This would lead me to think that the #s were changed for other reasons than the power output. Also the "New" stile alternator which was used in the "J" motors actually started with the MKII engine. That was one of the big improvements that they did to the engine.

Thanks for the help. was hoping someone might have a manual with the alternator specs.

I was assuming extra lights and loads on the police bike meant more alternator juice. Maybe the ~8 amps my Gerbings will draw is similar to the xtra loads on a police bike.

I'll check the output with the clothes plugged in and see what i get.

There's some good reading on other forums about stators and regulators. Apparently even modern bikes have issues. If you can find a heavy duty mosfet type reg/rect off of ebay, then you can wire it directly to the battery and get better overall performance. www.easternbeaver.com has the pre made conectors, and a write up about the type of reg you'd need.
