Hi all!

My 75 KZ400 has a flickering stop lamp and I cannot find any problems with the lights. Nothing seems to be blown, all lights work. Any ideas of what to do? A good cleaning or something?

Thanks in advance.....ya'll are awesome.

My first thought is that the brake switch at the foot lever is maybe adjusted too sensitively.

You can just twist it to make it more or less sensitive.

Zoo, Taillight or inst.light? Inst light comes on when brake light is on, & flashes if bulb is out when brake is applied (on applicible models) for grins, back off rear brake light switch adjuster @ 1/2 turn, check function & observe. luck G

As suggested by Biquetoast and gane, perhaps the rear brake switch is adjusted too sensitive, and could be loosened a tad.

Here's a pic of a typical rear brake switch.

Good Luck! :)

The "dashboard" indicator lamp in the panel between the tach and speedo may have a label underneath that says "Stop Lamp" in small white letters.

With ignition switched ON, the "dashboard" indicator lamp is normally off until it glows steadily during braking. But if "flashing" while riding along without braking, it's warning in advance that the rear brake light has failed and will not function upon subsequent braking. The failure might be due to a burned out bulb or some fault in the wiring.

The bike's rear light bulb is a dual filament bulb, meaning it has two separate filaments. One filament is the "brake" light supposed to burn only during braking. The other filament is the "tail" or "running" light supposed to burn whenever the headlight is on (or when ignition switch is turned counter-clockwise to "parking light" position). The tail light has no influence on the dashboard "Stop Lamp" indicator. And the dashboard "Stop Lamp" indicator gives no information regarding operation of the tail light.

Good Luck! :)

Oh right... that...

It could also be flashing (with a regular meter, not intermittently flickering) if you replaced your tail/brake bulb with an LED bulb, since the warning module senses the load of a normal bulb, but cannot detect an LED bulb properly.

i had a similar problem... i decided to run a new power source from the front of the bike... i could never pinpoint where the problem was with the tail light... my brake light has always been accurate... but.... the tail light would be on.. then off... i couldn't go night riding... after 2 weeks of day time playing with the damn thing... i just ran a new wire... if you decide to run a new wire make sure that its a hot wire that only will light up your bulb when the ignition is on.... otherwise you might end up with a dead battery in the morning... or... after you make a stop while out riding... and that would just SUCK!!!...

I am hoping I do not need new wiring but brakes lights and lights in general are pretty important. Thanks for your help.
