Rewrapping wiring harnesses?

I did some mods to my wiring harness that required removing some of the outer wrapping. Now I'm ready to wrap it back up, but I am not sure what kind of tape to use. I've been told not to use plastic electricians tape, as it reacts to heat and oils. I'm not looking for the split loom type stuff. Okay, then what is a good tape to use?

I've used regular electricians tape for decades with no problems except one... it's a real pain to un-wrap. What you really want is electrician tape without the adhesive... which is what the factory used.

Some more tape sources:

Dry Vinyl Tape From Tape Brothers
www.tapebrothers.com

Dry Vinyl Tapes are non-adhesive plasticized polyvinyl chloride film tape. Easy unwinding characteristics - tape clings firmly to it’s own backing for tight wrap. High elongation and good strength to permit trouble-free binding of wiring harnesses for the automotive industry. Dry vinyl tape also used for plating applications- high stretch, good “cling” characteristics and great conformability provide for superior masking in hard chrome and other plating applications.

Don't use adhesive black tape. It's a mess. Use the dry tapes mentioned. You can get them at any place that does auto restoration supplys like "The Eastwood Co". Wrap the loom with the dry tape, then use the 3M regular tape at the ends to keep the whole works from unraveling. Comes out nice and easily reversable if need be plus much more flexibility since the tape is not holding the wires ridged, they are more or less floating in the loom. Try reversing a loom wrapped with adhesive tape, Yuk.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
