I finally received my replacement headlight from Candlepower (part #8022LR) yesterday and it was everything it was advertised to be. With the exception of drilling one 1/8-inch hole in the tab for the side-to-side adjustment screw and then shortening the spring length, it was a bolt-in replacement for the OEM light.
Since I just got it yesterday and installed it last night, I haven’t been on the highway with it yet but I can tell a significant difference in intensity over the OEM unit just from lighting up the garage.
Per recommendations from Candlepower I went with the 45/45-watt bulb. They base this recommendation on the limits of the electrical system of the bike. (1979 KZ400 LTD.)
Obviously, one can get a much brighter H4 bulb. Does anyone have any experience with this and is there a fairly simply way to ramp-up the output limits of the charging system on a 400?
