If your reg is charging, you should read about 13.5 - 14V at the battery with the engine above 3000 RPM.

Okay, I finally got around to tracing all the wires and replacing anything that looked suspicious. The starter works great now and everything seems to be fine. Now I need to go get a battery and check out the charging system. As it is, it runs awesome on the charger, but dies when I disconnect it. I'm guessing the regulator will be first on my list. Where is a good place to get a rectifier?
