Dyna S rpm gauge not working was created by KZ1100 Bully
Hi, messing with the wires and not sure if I run both ground wires from the coils or just one to get rpm gauge to work right?

Thanks

"rpm gauge to work right"... ?

Other than effecting the rpm/timing itself, this has nothing to do with your tach gauge working correctly....

Not sure I'm/we're following correctly....

Yes, the Dyna needs to be wired correctly... The grounding is through the ignition plate being screwed into the casing... Engne needs proper grounding!

Maybe this will help.... Tutorial I wrote...

Does the tack run off the white wire or the green wire? I have a black wire running to the tack not sure what wire join to it green or white or both.

Dave, he has an electronic tach that reads off one of the coil trigger wires, same setup on my GPz 1100.

Bully, you should only connect the black tach wire to one of the coil wires. I would think it doesn't matter which one, but if in doubt check which coil wire (1/4 or 2/3) used to black in the stock setup and connect the black tach wire to that coil. Btw, you still have the brown tach wire (+12V connected, right?

Yes I think I do. I also did the Wired George coil mod?

The only wire I removed was the black one. I removed the black wire installing the Dyna S, that black wire that ran to the tack it still does,I hooked the white wire with black shrink wrap to the black wire running to the tack.

Thanks guys, I will not know if it is working as the bike is stored inside

" he has an electronic tach that reads off one of the coil trigger wires"...

Same here with my Acewell Speedo/Tach unit.

So this is actually a "Dyna S rpm gauge "...
Meaning a RPM display unit?

If so, Whoa, didn't know they made gauges.... Learn something new everyday... cool!

Sorry for my confusion...

Thanks for the update...

No, he's trying to make his stock electronic tach work with a Dyna S, at least that's how I read it.

I just installed an Acewell 2802 (same as yours) on my GPz 1100 that also has a stock electronic tach - Acewell suggest you wrap the tach sensor wire around one of the plug wires, but I found it was a better solution to connect it directly to one of the coil trigger wires, works like a charm.

Bully, the coil mod won't matter as it only concerns the 12V supply to the coils, I believe connecting the tach sensor wire to either of the coil trigger wires will work.

In my Acewell directions, they provided both methods and recommended the direct solder to coil termiantion... Hmmm... Either way, for higher degree of pick up accuracy, direct termination is the way to go no doubt.... ;)

Dave, upon closer inspection you're right, the Acewell instructions actually shows both methods, the wrap method is shown on the front page while the direct method is shown in the diagram. Seems I missed the fine print...

Bully, no problem, only happy to help.
