Hey All quick question.
I am installing a dyna s ignition system in my 76 kz900 A4. I need to know the direction of the 13mm bolt and 17mm nut holding the spark advance (points cam) in place... aka is it reverse or normal threaded???

thanks if you can help.

If it's like my 82 GPz1100 it's right to tighten and left to loosen(as you look at it).

Normal CW to tighten....

And be EXTREMELY careful with that 13mm nut....

Several members here have reported of snapping this bolt...
Snug is good where no real hard torque is required!

EDIT:
Follow the link... Tutorial for Dyna-S on KZ900-A4...
Maybe will help.... ;)

NOTE: I have performance cams @ 105 lobe centers so final mark alignments may differ from yours but the procedure is the same....

Example: Static is to advance timing marks but on mine, F mark is what was required then dynamic came out correctly....

The 17mm "fake" nut isn't "threaded." It fits into position where it's designed to also provide a grip for a wrench to hand-rotate the crankshaft.

Good Luck! :)

spray it ...give it a soft direct tap with a wrench or tiny hammer...and loosen in the normal direction....the 13 is the one to loosen....

Thanks for the replies, I will be extra careful with that 13mm...thats the reason I initially posted this, because it was not coming off normally and I didn't want to force it and break the bolt...That has already happened with some bolts on my 900, and this one seems extra-inconvenient to repair.

Yes. PBBlaster or Kroil is imo the best spray, and would allow it to soak at least overnight.

An air or electric impact wrench might also help jar it loose.

Good Luck! :)

Hello,
Just did mine the other day, loosen counter clockwise.
When you tighten it up torque setting is 16.5 - 19.5 foot pounds, as per Kawasaki manual, I used 18 for mine and it works.
Hope this helps.
