Ignition Issue was created by mjhoey
I've got a 1980 KZ550 C and I'm getting no spark from the plugs. The battery is good, the plugs are good and I'm kind of at a loss. I'm wondering if anyone knows a trick for testing the high tension leads or the coils without using an ohm meter.

Thanks,

do you have a test light if you do check all your fuses and check to see if your getting good voltage at the coil.

With ignition switch ON and kill switch in RUN position (engine not running), are ignition coils receiving battery positive voltage (typically a red/yellow wire to each coil's primary terminal)?

In order for an ignition coil to function, it must be receiving battery positive voltage. So that would be a good thing to check.

Access to the red/yellow wires and/or coil primary terminals usually entails removal of the fuel tank.

Good Luck! :)

Hello, Jason, and WELCOME to KZR! :)
We're glad you're here! :cheer:

getting no spark from the plugs ---
Am presuming that no spark is visible at the business end of the plug when the plug is removed with its base held against the engine head while the engine is being spun over in the otherwise usual start-up procedure (ignition switch ON and kill switch in RUN position).

A fat blue spark would be really nice. :cheer:

Good Luck! :)
