Are you talking about replacing the standard light bulbs with LED's or an installation of them to show speed and rpm's?

Use a 1000 ohm, 1/2 watt (can get by with a 1/4 watt but I'd go with 1/2 watt) resistor off the +12Vdc to the anode of the LED and the cathode of the LED to ground....

Should be good to go.... ;)

Will these use less power than the stock bulbs?

Power consumption and heat are both reduced. I swapped out all of mine including the turn signals (4w). I used the ones from Superbrightled's. The only ones that didn't work are the turn indicators in the dash because they use a shared line and the led's (diodes) are directional and would require extra wiring. Make sure you get the wide ones for the gauge face so it spreads out more. Nice deep dark green now. Looks good. I used the high intensity on the oil, neutral and high beam.

I believe you are asking only for Speedo and Tach ilumination. This is very hard to do with LEDs because they don't radiate nor flood light around the way incandescents do.

I tried hi intensity LEDs for ilumination on my Tach and Speedo, and the effect was dimmer than incandescent so I went back to stock bulbs. I'd still like to try if I could find more appropriate 'radiating' type.

For spot indicators like oil, neutral, hi-beam etc, no problem, as long as you use high intensity and same color as lense. They are not cheap.

I believe in changing to LED's if possible because they are far more efficient, as don't dissipate heat, and lack of filament makes them more reliable.
