SO i tested my rr today

at idle the white and red wire reads 17-18vdv and also reads 46-49v ac

the 2 yellow wires from stator read 46-49vac

i am guessing its bad since its sending ac thru to the battery


am i correct

1978 kz650 with 81kz750 motor, dyna coils/pickup, 4/1 header, d&d pipe, pods, gsxr brake controls, airtech clipons, r1 taillight, and cafed out

the yellow wires should read d.c volts the alternator produces a.c current which then goes thru the regulator/rectifier and is switched to d.c current your d.c current does seem abit high though have you taking a readings at the battery yet you should be getting around 14.5 volts dc at about 4500 rpm. by the way your ac. voltages seem within ball park range is your battery boiling off or are experiancing other problems that made you suspect the r/r

The yellow wires come from the stator to the regulator. So they should read ac. But should I be reading ac and dc to the battery from the regulator? I don't have a tach so I don't have any idea what I am reading at any rpm. But at idle the battery reads 13.7v.

The yellow wire get hot when I rev the motor. To I figured something was up. Also unlesll I have a battery charger on the bike it won't idle or rev properly. I have dyna coils on her.
