Ignition switch relocation was created by sbulla
Any of you who have performed this, chime in, send pics, descriptions, etc.

I just installed an Acewell 2803 in place of the stock gauges and am mulling over what to do with the ignition switch. Guess I could just fab a tab and mount it off one of the handlebar bolts but, if possible, I would like to move it away from the tree and, maybe, mount it somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Anywhere you relocate it to, consider making it difficult for the would be thief to break/smash to be able to drive off with your bike. Maybe use non standard hardware to mount the ignition switch like Torx or socket head cap screws(Allen Screws).

Most people don't carry around Allen wrenches or Torx tools, usually a phillips #2 or a straight slot screwdriver.

You might have to do some electrical splicing of the wires for the relocation of the switch. If you don't feel confident, get someone who can as a faulty splice(s) can strand you on the road in the future.

I like using the crimpable heat shrink splice, thats first swaged/crimped on the wire and then sealed from moisture when the outer covering is shrunk down using a special heat gun.

I like the idea of an AUTO CAR after market ignition switch mounted down by the left side near the fuel petcock. TURN/ON/ACC/START type then your wiring can be tied into near your starter sil-o-noid. No more push button start. Keeps it somewhat invisable and your keys won't be in the way bouncing around your handle bars. But thats my way of thinking.....to each his own...

I was thinking about that location also. But, more underneath where it wouldn't be visible. Maybe on the other side so I could reach it without too many acrobatics.

Heck, I even thought of just using a toggle switch hidden somewhere if I knew the internal connections the switch made and how many poles the switch needed.

My brain is wore out from the gauge mounting and hook up. I'll study the schematic later...

Anyone know why they have two power feeds to the switch coming from the same source?
