Fuse types
14 Sep 2009 07:19
Hi, I'm looking for information on which fuses to use on my 76 kz900.
I know there are 3; a 20A SFE, and 2 1OA ASB. i'm having trouble finding the 10A ASB fuses, is there an equivalent fuse i should use? and what should the voltage be on the 10's? thanks!

My 81 650-CSR still has the original fuse holders - I always have spares on hand. Never needed them, though.

I'd pull the fuses one at a time and clean the clips with some Brasso and a cotton swab.Corrosion can cause overheating and melted insulation.
These older glass tubed fuses are the 1" long AGX type available at some auto parts stores and motorcycle shops.
The more common AGC type is 1 1/4" long and may not fit the fuse clips.

Thanks again! just changed the glass ones out - seems to have more juice and the dash, headlight, tail, etc lights are brighter.

Did you use the individual fuse holders such as in the pic posted by OMR? Any details? Just kinda curious if you used a fuse box of any kind or are they just stuffed in behind the electro cover. Thanks.

I used the individual ones i bought from adv auto, couldn't find a box for the inlines - would've went that route. Just black taped for now for organizing until/unless i find a better way- so essentially stuffed for now in the same area where the old box was located.
i think definitely worth the upgrade.
Just some background; my old fuse box was not holding my 20a correctly because one of the plastic holders broke off at some time and i had of headlight fuse blow and couldn't find the correct 10a replacement.

I just did the same thing with my 76 900. I replaced the little fuse box with the type OMR suggested, although I went with the glass type. They work great, and I just stuffed them in behind the original fuse box. I put that back in there as well just for looks. And have had no problems, so far, with about 300 miles on it since I did it.
