Not that I disagree with you guys regarding the halogens but does anyone know what his voltages are?

Reasoning, if not ~ +12Vdc @ the bulb, halogens ain't going to be worth a crap either....

If you want bright buy a new headlight. The trillien tribar wave headlight is what you want and it comes with a halogen. If you are riding in pre 80 then that is what you should replace it with if you are riding an 80 up you could just buy a halogen bulb. I bought one for my bike and it was night and day brighter then I put the tribar on it and once again bigger difference yet.
It looks like you are riding a pre 78 in which case yes the bulb is crap and best to upgrade. You can get an 80 light or you can get the tribar. I am not sure but on ebay if car headlights 7 inchers will work then you can get a set for 50 if not then I got mine on amazon.com for 80 some dollars. Best investment in bright you can make if you don't have an 80 light.

I have a halogen headlight, but I also added 2 small fog lights under it bolted onto the brake block.

I replaced the stock bulb and lens setup on my 77 KZ1000 with a sealed beam halogen many years ago with no problems whatsoever and at about 12 bucks a crack, it's a cheap but very effective solution to your problem.
